PREPARATORY WORKSHOPS FOR EAC CERTIFICATION

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What format will the workshops take?
A. Each workshop will be in three parts:
    • The first part looks at the editorial standards that the exams are based on. Many of the people who failed apparently focused on editorial functions that are not part of the standards, and ignored issues that are.
    • The second, and longest, part of the workshop goes through the Study Guide. Again, the emphasis is on the standards. The hope is that we'll be able to show you the logic behind how the exam was set.
    • The third part of the workshop focuses on exam-taking tips. From talking to some of the people who failed the test, it is clear that some failed not because they are poor editors, but because they are very rusty at taking exams.
Q. Aren't the EAC Study Guides alone sufficient to prepare for the exams?
A. The first round of exams showed that simply working through the Study Guides (as practically everyone who took the exams did), even as part of a study group, was insufficient preparation for many people.
