PREPARATORY WORKSHOPS FOR EAC CERTIFICATION
"Thanks one more time for your invaluable advice - after [the workshop] I made some changes to how I was preparing, and am I ever glad I did!"
REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. THE NEXT SET OF WORKSHOPS WILL BE OFFERED IN FALL 2010.
Colborne Communications offers one-day workshops to prepare editors for the EAC certification examinations.
In 2010, we are offering workshops for two of the examinations, based on the new professional editorial standards that came into effect in January 2010:
• Proofreading
• Copy Editing
In future years, we will also offer workshops in Structural Editing and Stylistic Editing.
EAC certification is intended for editors with five or more years of experience. Our workshops obviously can't offer that experience, but they can show you exactly which skills are being tested and can give you hints that will help you prepare for the test.
We can't guarantee you'll pass, of course, but we can ensure that you are better prepared for the examinations.
Workshop Contents
Each workshop follows this format:
• Reviewing the EAC standards on which the examination is based
• Working through the Study Guide
• Studying the parts of the Study Guide that particularly gave the participants trouble
• Discussing exam-taking techniques
Fees
The fee for each workshop is $375 (or $350 if you already have the EAC Study Guide) plus GST. The fee covers the following:
• The one-day workshop
• A copy of the EAC Study Guide for that test
• Refreshments and lunch
Dates and Times
We offer each workshop twice, but will be able to offer additional workshops if the initial two fill up. We reserve the right to cancel any workshop where enrolment is too low.
Copy Editing
To be announced.
Proofreading
To be announced.
Location
If we get nine or fewer registrations for a workshop, it will be held in Colborne's boardroom at 460 Richmond St. W., Suite 401, Toronto. If we get ten or more registrations for a workshop, we'll move it to a nearby hotel meeting room (location to be announced). We are limiting registrations in each workshop to 20 people.
If you are outside of Toronto and interested in having a session in your area, please let us know. We intend to offer the workshops across the country if there is sufficient demand.
Instructor
We decided in planning these workshops to use only instructors who are themselves certified. Instructors to be announced.
How to Register
Please contact Greg Ioannou by phone at 416.214.0183 ext. 10, or by email at info@colcomm.ca.
